Pakistan is set to get his first woman the Supreme Court Judge – Justice Ayesha Malik from the Lahore High Court.
The Pakistani Judicial Commission (JCP) led by Judge Chairman Gulzar Ahmed on Thursday approved the increase in justice Ayesha Malik by the majority of five votes to four, reported.
It is important to note that this is the second time JCP held a meeting to decide on the increase in justice Ayesha Malik. His name was first taken for a discussion on September 9 years but then was rejected due to four votes on four.
Abdul Latif Afridi, President of the Pakistani Supreme Court Association, even called for protests throughout the country to his name being considered. Justice Malik is a junior for many judges in charge of five of the country’s high courts, Afridi has told the media.
On Thursday, the Pakistani Bar Board (PBC) has threatened to boycott the court if JPC clears Ayesha Malik’s name for altitude.
However, the Judicial Commission for Pakistan recommendations will now be considered by the parliamentary committee. In most cases, this committee agrees with the JCP recommendation, which means that justice Ayesha Malik is now a closer step to become a Pakistani Women’s Supreme Court judge.
