The Conservative Party that the British government has called for an investigation into the case of a senior minister suspected of watching pornography on his cellphone while sitting in the House of Commons.
The head of the party whip, Chris Heaton-Harris, has requested that the problem be referred to the Parliamentary Complaints and Complaints schemes and complaints, according to a statement from his spokesman. He will take the right action when the ICGS investigation is finished, the statement said.
The Daily Mirror reported the previous Wednesday that the minister sat next to a female member while watching a video during the meeting in recent months.
Calls for investigations come in the midst of a wave of controversy about sexual harassment and hatred of women in Westminster. Three Cabinet members of Prime Minister Boris Johnson were among 56 parliamentary members who faced allegations of sexual violations and had been reported to the Parliament ICG, according to the Sunday Times newspaper. The Johnson Party also faced a reaction to reports in the Sunday newspaper where anonymous conservative parliament made a misogynist statement about the Deputy Leader of the Labor Party Angela Rayner.
“Of course sexual harassment cannot be tolerated and is quite true that members must now have procedures with which they can bring them to the DPR authorities,” Johnson said at the Commons on Wednesday, when asked about this problem. “Of course that’s the reason for dismissal.”
Johnson also said on Wednesday that “there is absolutely no place for such behavior or expression” about the statement about Rayner and that parliament members must treat each other more respectfully.
The new focus on violations by conservatives is a new setback for Johnson, who became the first prime minister found to have violated the law when he was fined for locking rules. Negative coverage is also a blow to Tories ahead of the local election on May 5, where a bad appearance can update a call from a conservative backbench to be marked by Johnson.
