A British Instagrammer woman in Sri Lanka was asked by the authorities to leave the country before August 15 because he participated in anti-government protests recently, according to media reports on Thursday.
Officials from the Department of Immigration and Emigration seized the Kayleigh Fraser passport to be questioned on August 2 to examine whether he had violated one of the visa conditions while living in a crisis country, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported.
He was in the country it seems for medical reasons, the report said.
He was also asked to visit the Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration within seven days for investigation. Fraser, who is on Instagram, has posted a new ‘Gotagohome’ mass protest image and video that was held at “Galle Face” on his account.
After the investigation, the department stopped his visa and asked him to leave the country on August 15, the report said.
Sri Lanka has faced economic and political chaos that has never happened since April this year.
The country has seen a massive anti-government protest that leads to the resignation of Minister Prime Mahinda Rajapaksa at that time and his younger brother, President of Gotabaya Rajapaksa because he missed the worst economic crisis in the country.
The protesters have made Galle Face in their main protest camp Colombo and named it “Gota Go Home Village”. On Wednesday, the protesters left Galle Face where they have been installed anti-government sitting since April 9.
